In an ideal world you would be able to move from one home right to the next home. Unfortunately this just is not reality for all moves. You may find yourself in a situation where you have to find somewhere to live temporarily. Where you decide to live in between housing can be a stressful choice to make. Sometimes there is a very clear option but other times you are not so lucky. Following are some options that you may want to consider.
Include Temporary Housing in Relocation Package – If you are being relocated for a job you will want to be very clear about your relocation package. Some relocation packages will pay up to a certain amount per month for your living costs. Other relocation packages will find and negotiate a housing option for you. Still others will not include this in your relocation package at all. If it is not included in your package you may want to talk to your boss about this being included.
Short Term Rental Options – You may be moving because you simply want to move. In this case there is clearly not a relocation package available to you. If you do not have a relocation package you will need to come up with your own solution. You may see if you can keep staying in your current home until your new home is ready. If you are renting your current home you could simply ask if you could rent month to month for a short time. If you are selling your current home you could ask the new homeowners if you could close the loan and then rent back from them until your new home is ready. Many times one of these options will work out nicely for you.
Live with Family or Friends – If that does not work for you we have a few more ideas. You may have family members or friends that have extra space in their home that are willing to have you move in temporarily. There are also apartments that you can lease on a monthly basis as well. Hopefully one of these options will work for you without any problems.
