There are things you can do as moving day approaches to make it easier. You may not think that area rugs, plastic floor mats and welcome mats would be helpful for your move, but they are. Set these items aside as you pack so they can be used during the move. Towels and old blankets can be helpful too. Floors can also be protected with pieces of cardboard. These items can also be wrapped around your furniture to protect your walls from scuffs. Moving day will be filled with sliding, carrying, and shifting. Invest in some felt pads and place them on all the feet of your furniture and other heavy items that you will need to slide on the floor. Make sure you clean the floor completely on the night or morning before moving. This will remove any debris that can scratch your floors when furniture is moved or when it is walked upon. Dirt and debris can also damage carpet fibers.
